Guidelines for using imprinted promotional items to attract clients

We all have seen all kinds of promotional items and many of us how quite a few lying around the house. If you are like some of those out there marketing their company, you more than likely have had some failed attempts with imprinted promotional items. The reason this may be true is that you follow the norm. Yes, you give away the same exact items as your competitors. Look around your house. How many pens do you find with company names or logos? If you were searching for a specific company, could you in fact find their pen among the hundreds you have lying around? A pen is great for a small gift however, adding a notepad, a desk organizer, or even a pencil holder along with the pen will give you a promotional item that will stay in front of your potential client as long as you have your company info imprinted on the item and not just the pen.

Now, let’s look at the guidelines

Find unique imprinted promotional items that will be distinguished from your competitors. Examples for around the office include Rulers, Staplers, Letter Openers, Clips, Memo Holders, Magnifiers, Desk Organizers Note Pads & Cubes, Calculators, and Paperweights, USB, Flash & Memory Drives, Mouse Pads, Wrists Rests, Monitor Accessories, Keyboard Accessories, and Laser Pointers. Examples for around the home or for those on the go include Mp3 Player Accessories, Voice Recorder Accessories, CD Cases, Media Downloads, Computer Bags, Luggage, Cell Phone Accessories, Backpacks, Tote Bags, Duffel Bags, Coolers, Briefcases & Messenger Bags, Golf & Other Sport Bags, Cosmetic Bags & Toiletry Kits, Clips, Magnets, Memo Holders, Food & Drink Accessories, Barbeque, Appliances & Kitchen Utensils, Candles & Spa Gifts, Blankets & Throws.

Choose gifts that enhance your own business. Example if you own a computer store then computer accessories would be your best bet. This way when they are using their computer they will see your company name on computer or desk items and this will keep your product fresh on their minds.

Use incentives to get guests that visit your website to join your newsletter or answer survey questions by offering a free gift. This small token of appreciation can be something they use everyday while on their computer such as a mouse pad. You know they are on their computer or they would not have been visiting your website, you also know they are interested in your product or service or they would not have been there.

Use incentives to get customers to order more than one product by throwing in an imprinted promotional item such as a travel mug or t-shirt. Most people will purchase another item to get something free.

Plan contest with imprinted promotional items. You can even have visitors purchase a dog tag with your company name as a ticket for the contest. This way you can afford to give a higher priced item such as luggage or even a large gift basket full of goodies.

Know your visitors. If you believe, you have visitors that are in the younger adult category you should already know they would enjoy gifts such as music downloads, cell phone accessories, CD accessories and most likely computer accessories.

Using these guidelines should enable you to use imprinted promotional items to your own advantage while giving your vendors, business associates, existing customers, and potential customers items they will use and appreciate. The number one rule of thumb is if they use the product, your company will stay on their mind instead of an item that will tossed away in a drawer with other competitor’s items.
