Promotional products are offered at sale prices for a variety of reasons. Sometimes products have been ordered months before to fill an anticipated demand that, for one reason or another, does not materialize. In other instances, they are offered as an inducement to lure a first time customer and make them into a client. Some sale items are loss leaders and are offered at a small profit margin for this reason.

Promotional products are put on clearance to get rid of excess inventory or raise capital. Products such as gift items for the home or desk might go on clearance long before the holiday season to make room for fresh inventory. Often these are fine pieces that can be ordered in advance to save money. Sometimes an item becomes less popular than anticipated because its use has been supplanted by new products. An example of this would be travel alarm clocks. Many people now prefer to use their PDA or cell phone. However, there are certain groups that still prefer a clock.

Many items are put on clearance to make way for newer styles. Since the products will not be featured in the upcoming new line, they are priced for quick sale. There are many great buys to be found in this category. Whether it’s bags, tools or flash memory, there are always discontinued products that represent an excellent opportunity to save.
